Bunny egg hats will make everybody smile! The pattern is very easy, and suitable for a beginner. They are not only whipped up in no time, they will also look stinkin’ cute on your easter breakfast table!
I used Scheepjes‘ Cotton 8 (available from Deramores or Woolwarehouse), in white (502) and pink (654) . You won’t need much, about 20m of white and a tiny bit of pink will do for one egg hat. I used a 3,5 mm crochet needle (E/4).
Abbreviations used (US terms):
- sc: single crochet
- sc2tog: single crochet 2 together
- ss: slip stitch
- ch: chain
- hdc: half double crochet
Hat (with white):
start with a magic loop.
R1: 6sc in magic loop (6).
R2. 2sc in every sc (12).
R3: *2sc in sc, 1sc*, repeat between ** 5 times (18).
R4: sc around (18).
R5: 2sc in sc, 2sc*, repeat between ** 5 times (24).
R6: 2sc in sc, 3sc*, repeat between ** 5 times (30).
R7: 2sc in sc, 4sc*, repeat between ** 5 times (36).
R8-R9: sc around (36).
R10: *sc 4, sc2tog*, repeat between ** 5 times (30). ss into next stitch, cut yarn and fasten off. If you have a very large egg, you can omit this row.
Ears (make 2):
R1: with pink, ch9 (8+1 turning ch), turn work (9).
R2: 1 ss, 3 sc, 4 ss, cut yarn (9).
R3: with white, join with a ss in the first stitch of R1, sc in same stitch, 3sc, 3hdc, 2hdc in 1 stitch (cross over to other side of ear), 2hdc in 1 stitch, 3hdc, 4sc, cut yarn (leave a 15cm tail for fastening) (18).
Weave in all the ends, except for the 15cm tail left on both ears. Use that end to sew the ears to the hat, on both sides of the center. Well, that’s pretty much it! If you feel the ears curl up too much, just iron or steamblock them very, very lightly.
