Chroma Wristies

26.Oct.17 / Kirsten Ballering

I’m so happy I can finally show you my new wristies design: The Chroma wristies! These beauties were in the making a few months ago. They were almost finished, I just needed to tweak the trebles a bit so they twist up your arms a bit more. In my excitement, I sent a picture to Simy, Creative director from Scheepjes. Since they were perfect for her Simy’s Challenge, she asked me if it was OK to feature them in the new YARN! So trebles were tweaked, pictures were taken, and voilá!

Create an beautiful set of wrist warmers with the crochet Chroma wristies! They spiral up and up, over your wrist into your palm. The front-post trebles combined with the ombre colours create opposite and eye-catching vortexes, different for the left and right hand. The pattern is written in UK terms, and is suitable for advanced beginners who can work with front post stitches.

The pattern for the Chroma Wristies is also available as a styled and advertisement- free PDF in the Haak Maar Raak shop.

Shop the yarn

Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat (formerly Bon Bon) is available from the following retailers:

Crochet hook

3.5mm (US size E/4)

Measurements

  • bottom circumference: 22cm (8½in)
  • wrist circumference: 19cm (7½in)
  • palm circumference: 21cm (8¼in)
  • length: 22cm (8½in)

Please note the wristies will stretch a bit when worn, so do not worry if they at first seem very tight.

Gauge/tension

21.5 dc x 26 rows to 10 x10cm (4 x 4in) on a 3.5mm crochet hook, double stranded.

Notes

  • The pattern is worked double stranded.
  • Whenever you work a FPtr, skip the one stitch directly behind it.
  • When making your ss at the end of a row, make sure to make the ss in the first st, not the chain that doesn’t count as a stitch.
  • A FPtr is always worked around the FPtr of a row below unless otherwise indicated. In the left wristies you’ll find that the FPtr from the row below are positioned a bit to the left of your current stitch, and in the right wristies a bit to the right. This creates the spiral ridges you see in the pattern.>
  • Dropped dc’s are the ‘anchors’ to which we adhere the first FPtr’s to.
  • In Round 38 there are two different ways of writing 2dc: there’s ‘2dc’ which means that you crochet 1dc in each of the next 2 stitches, and ‘2dc in next st’, which means that you crochet 2dc in the same st a.k.a. increase a stitch.
  • The pattern uses around 23g per ball of Sweet treat. For that reason it’s wise to hold off on crocheting the thumb holes until you’ve finished your second wristie and see how much yarn you actually have left.
  • Sometimes additional instructions are given in the pattern rows. These are displayed in italic.

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch: chain
  • ch-sp: chain space
  • dc: double crochet
  • dc2tog: double crochet 2 together
  • dropped dc: dropped double crochet. Insert your needle in the stitch the row below your current stitch (in the case of Round 2 that’s the beginning chain), continue making a dc as usual
  • FPtr: front post treble
  • ss: slip stitch
  • st(s): stitch(es)

I wonder... Why choose a fine yarn and used it double-stranded, when there are zillions of yarn types out there, and you could just choose one with the right thickness, making life much easier? August 11, 2020 08:30 - Reply

Hi Irmar,
I chose this yarn because the colours I was looking for were not available in any other brand available to me. But of course, you're always welcome to use another yarn :). August 11, 2020 08:33 - Reply
