The Larksfoot stitch consists of two rows. The first row contains the dropped dc’s, and the second row follows the pattern of ch and dc’s set in the first row. Use this explanation in combination with the written pattern, which tells you the exact stitch repeats.

Join your colour with a ss in the first stitch. Crochet three ch (count as dc here and further on) and crochet three dc’s (photo 1). Skip a stitch, crochet a ch and three dc, and repeat this until the end of the row, ending with four dc in the final four stitches (photo 2). Cut yarn, turn blanket.

Join a new colour with a ss in the first stitch, work three chains (photo 3). This is the first row where you’ll be working dropped dc’s. Crochet a dc, a ch, skip one stitch and work another dc (photo 4). You’re now at the chain space. Crochet a dc in the skipped stitch in the grey row, instead of in the chain space (photo 5). Pull the loop of this dc up to your current row so it won’t look cramped. This is your dropped dc. Work a dc in the next stitch. The combination of ‘dc, dropped dc and dc’ is a Larksfoot stitch (photo 6). Crochet a ch, skip a stitch and work another Larksfoot stitch. Repeat this until the end of the row, and work two dc’s in the final two stitches (photo 7). Don’t cut yarn, turn blanket.

Crochet three ch, a dc, ch (above the chain space of the previous row) and skip the chain space. Crochet three dc and a ch with a skipped chain space until the end of the row. This copies the pattern of the row below. Finally, work two dc in the final two stitches (photo 8). Cut yarn, turn blanket.

Join your new colour with a ss in the first stitch. Crochet three ch (photo 9). Make a Larksfoot Stitch by working a dc, dropped dc in the chain space two rows below and a dc (photo 10). Crochet one ch, skip a stitch and work another Larksfoot Stitch. Repeat this until the end of the row, with a dc in the final stitch (photo 11). Don’t cut yarn, turn blanket.

Crochet three ch, three dc, one ch, and skip a stitch. You are again copying the pattern of the row below. Work four dc in the final four stitches (photo 12). Cut your yarn, turn blanket.

Repeat these last four rows until you’ve reached the desired height. Don’t forget to copy the pattern of the row below every second row!
