This free crochet pattern for potholders is so easy and fun to make! All you need is a little bit of spare time, two skeins of Scheepjes Cotton 8 in bright white, A couple of tiny scraps of Sunkissed (For each bobble you’ll need 1 meter) and a 5,0mm crochet needle. Yes, a 5.0! It’s not a mistake, I’m working double stranded!
For the blue dotted potholder I used these colours:
- Oceanside (006)
- Poolside (004)
- Seaside (005)
And for the red one:
- Watermelon ice (008)
- Strawberry ice (009)
- Peach ice (011)
- Sand dunes (002)
As I said before, you’ll only need about 1 meter per bobble. So you will have lots of yarn left for other patterns!
Used stitches (US terms):
- hdc: half double crochet
- Bobble stitch: In the stitch before your bobble stitch, change colours by completing the last step of the stitch (pull yarn through loops on hook) with the colour of your bobble (again, double stranded). Your white ends can just be dropped for now. Then create a bobble stitch by making a dc but omit the last step. Repeat this 3 times in the same stitch, which leaves you with lots of loops on your hook. Then change back to your white yarn, and pull the yarn through all loops on hook.
Start with a magic loop.
R1: crochet 6 hdc (6)
R2: crochet 2 hdc in each hdc (12).
Red version: From now on you’re going to make 2 bobbles in each odd row, and 1 bobble in each even row. Don’t think too hard about where your bobbles are going to be! This way, they’re going to be sprinkled all over. The bobbles count as a stitch.
Blue version: From now on you’re going to make a bobble every row. Don’t forget that the bobbles count as a stitch! V
R3: crochet 2 hdc in 1 hdc, 1 hdc, repeat 5 times (18).
R4: crochet 2 hdc in 1 hdc, 2 hdc, repeat 5 times (24).
R5: crochet 2 hdc in 1 hdc, 3 hdc, repeat 5 times (30).
R6: crochet 2 hdc in 1 hdc, 4 hdc, repeat 5 times (36).
R7: crochet 2 hdc in 1 hdc, 5 hdc, repeat 5 times (42).
R8: crochet 2 hdc in 1 hdc, 6 hdc, repeat 5 times (48).
R9: crochet 2 hdc in 1 hdc, 7 hdc, repeat 5 times (54).
R10:crochet 2 hdc in 1 hdc, 8 hdc, repeat 5 times (60).
R11: crochet 2 hdc in 1 hdc, 9 hdc, repeat 5 times (66).
R12: crochet 2 hdc in 1 hdc, 10 hdc, repeat 5 times (72).
R13: crochet 2 hdc in 1 hdc, 11 hdc, repeat 5 times (78).
Because the bobbles are pretty small, I knotted the ends together before weaving the ends in.
Repeat R1-R13, but without the bobbles.
Put the pieces wrong side together. Put your needle through all loops of the front and backside. Crochet 1hdc in every hdc around.
After that I gently steamblocked the potholders. Told you it was easy!
