Materials and preparation
Yarn
- Colour A: 713 Green x 1 ball
- Colour B: 710 Grey x 1 ball
- Colour C: 281 Tangerine x 1 scrap
- Colour D: 412 Forest Green x 1 scrap
- Colour E: 110 Black x 1 scrap
- Colour F: 130 Old Lace x 1 scrap
- mug (8cm in diameter, 9.5cm in height)
- button
- glue
- sewing needle

Crochet hook
3.0mm and 1.5mm.
Measurements
Fits a mug that's 8cm in diameter and 9.5cm in height.
Gauge/tension
Gauge is not critical for this project, just make sure the cozy fits the mug snuggly the first couple of rows.
Abbreviations (US terms)
- ch: chain
- dc: double crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- ss: slip stitch

Repeat formats
- *….; rep from * once/twice/3x Crochet the instructions after * and then repeat that section a further number of times as indicated.
- (…) in same st/sp Indicates that all instructions between brackets are worked in the same stitch or space.
Crochet pattern
Cozy
With Colour A and 3.0mm hook, ch60.
Row 1 Starting in second ch from hook, 59dc, ch1, turn.
Row 2 59dc, ch1, turn.
Row 3 Ss in the next 2 sts, 55dc, ch1, turn.
Row 4 55dc. Cut yarn.
Row 5 Join Colour B with ss in first st, 55dc, ch1, turn.
Row 6 55dc, ch1, turn.
Rows 7-24 55dc, ch1. turn.
Row 25 Ch20, 55dc, cut yarn. Make sure the button you intend to use fits through the chain.
You can leave your basic cozy like this, or if you want to give it a neater finish ss in every row around.
Appliques
You crochet all your appliques with a 1.5mm crochet hook.
Bats (make 3)
With Colour E, ch14.
Row 1 Starting in second ch from hook, 6dc, 3dc in 1 st, 6dc, turn.
Row 2 Ch2, 1ss in first st, 1dc in next st, *(1ss in next st, ch2, 1ss in same st) in same st, dc; repeat from * another time, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, 3dc in 1 st, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, *1dc, (1ss in next st, ch2, 1ss in same st) in same st; repeat from * another 2 times. Fasten off.
Large pumpkins (make 2)
With Colour C, make a magic ring.
Row 1 12hdc in ring, join to first hdc with ss.
Row 2 Ss in first st, 1hdc in next st, 2hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1hdc in next st, 1ss in each of next 2 sts, 1hdc in next st, 2hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1hdc in next st, 1ss, join with ss to first ss. Fasten off.
Stem: with Colour D, ch4. Start in second ch from hook, 3ss. fasten off.
Small pumpkins (make 1)
Repeat Row 1 and stem instructions from large pumpkin pattern.
Crosses (make 2)
With Colour F, ch8. Starting in second ch from hook, 3dc, ch4, starting in second ch from hook, 3dc, ch4, starting in second ch from hook, 3dc, 4dc in first 4 ch of row. Fasten off.
Moon
With Colour F, make a magic ring.
Row 1 12 hdc in ring, join to first hdc with ss.
Row 2 2hdc in each hdc, join to first hdc with ss.
Row 3 *1hdc, 2hdc in next st; repeat from * 11 times more, join to first hdc with ss. Fasten off.
Weave in all ends.
Assembly
Block your basic cozy to size. In the meantime, glue your moon to your button. Pin all the different appliques in place with a sewing pin. Take the colours with which you made the applique and secure them to the cozy with small stitches. Weave in all ends. Fasten your button in the upper corner opposite to your chain loop.
