Notes

The tree itself is made in individual pieces, which are sewn together when you finish a piece. Finally, the stem and star are added. You can crochet your first round immediately over the starting yarn tail, so you don’t need to weave that in separately.

Round 1 (RS)Starting in second ch from hook, 2sc in ch, 1sc in each of next 17 ch, 5sc in last ch (continue on other side of chain, crochet following stitches over loose end ), 1sc in each of next 17 ch, 3sc in last ch, ss to first sc, fasten off and leave a 30cm yarn tail.[44 sc, 1 ss]

Sewing pieces together
Thread a sewing needle with the yarn tail, and insert your needle straight down along the back of your sc’s to the bottom of your second piece (see chart). Sew pieces together in adjacent stitches on both pieces through back loops only. Don’t pull too hard on your yarn tail. Weave in ends when done.
