Neon Touch Baskets

Crochet hook

8.0mm (US Size 11/L).

Gauge/tension

Gauge is not critical for this project.

Small basket

With Colour A, make a magic ring.

Round 1 6sc in magic ring.

Round 2 (2sc in every sc) 6 times. [12 sc]

Round 3 (1sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [18 sc]

Round 4 (2sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [24 sc]

Round 5 (3sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [30 sc]

Round 6 (4sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [36 sc]

Round 7 (5sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [42 sc]

Round 8 (6sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [48 sc]

Round 9 (7sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [54 sc]

Round 10 (8sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [60 sc]

Cut yarn.

Round 11 Join Colour B, crochet in back loops only, 1sc in every sc. [60 sc]

Rounds 12-24 1sc in every sc.

Round 25 1ss in back loops only in every sc. Fasten off.

Neon decoration

Take your neon yarn and thread a big needle. Insert the needle in the second-to-last row from the back to the front. Then move 1 stitch to the left and a row below, and stick the needle to the back. Then move a stitch to the right, a row below. Bring the needle back to the front and insert it in the same stitch as you did before. Now you’ve made a chevron. Via the backside, move one stitch to the left and a row up, then start over. When you embroider like this, you get chevrons on the outside and nice diagonal stripes on the inside.

Because the basket is worked in spirals, you need to switch rows somewhere. I chose to make a chevron that was positioned half a stitch lower. This way you’ll end on the same row as you started.

Medium basket

With Colour A, make a magic ring.

Repeat Rounds 1-10 for the small basket.

Round 11 (9sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [66 sc]

Round 12 (10sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [72 sc]

Round 13 (11sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [78 sc]

Cut the yarn.

Round 14 Join Colour A with a ss and crochet in the back loops only, 1 sc in every sc. [78 sc]

Rounds 15-31 1sc in every sc.

Rounds 32 1ss in the back loop of every sc. Fasten off.

Handles (make 2)

Using Colour B, and leave some yarn on the beginning end to sew the handle on later.

Row 1 Ch4, turn work.

Row 2 Starting in second ch from hook, 3sc, ch1, turn.

Row 3 3sc, ch1, turn.

Row 4 2ss, ch15.

Row 5 1sc in the second chain from hook, 2sc in the third chain from hook, ch1, turn.

Row 6 3sc, ch1, turn.

Row 7 3sc, fasten off. Leave a yarn tail to sew on the handle.

Attach the handles with running stitches. Weave in the ends.

Large basket

With Colour A, make magic ring.

Repeat Rounds 1-10 for the small basket.

Round 11 (9sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [66 sc]

Round 12 (10sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [72 sc]

Round 13 (11sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [78 sc]

Round 14 (12sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times. [84 sc]

Round 15 (13sc, 2sc in next sc) 6 times, cut yarn. [90 sc]

Round 16 Join Colour A with a ss in any st, crochet in back loops only 1sc in every sc. [90 sc]

Rounds 17-30 1sc in every sc . Cut yarn.

Round 31-33 Join colour B with a ss in any st, 1sc in every sc.

Round 34 17sc, ch10, 35sc, ch10, 18sc. [70 sc, 20 ch]

Round 35 1sc in every sc, make 10sc in each ch-10 spaces. [90 sc]

Rounds 36-37 1sc in every sc.

Round 38 1ss in every sc. Fasten off. [90 ss]

Weave in all ends. You don't need to block the baskets, they stay in shape by themselves.
