Notes
- Use yarn double stranded throughout.
- When changing colour, do not work the 1ch at the end of the last row of the first colour. Join new colour with ss.
- The pattern repeat consists of 18 rows. Each colour section consists of 20 rows (10 popcorn rows).
- An easy way to remember how much hdc you need to work before the first popcorn is to look at the row number. Row 5 has 5 hdc before the first popcorn, Row 9 has 9 hdc before the first popcorn and so on.
Crochet pattern
Short back panel
With two strands of Colour A, ch80, turn.
Continue in pattern as set for two more rows. Fasten off Colour A.
Join Colour B with ss at start of next row (pattern Row 5) work 20 rows in pattern. Fasten off Colour B.
Join Colour C with ss at start of next row (pattern Row 7) work 20 rows in pattern. Fasten off Colour C.
Joining Colour D with ss at start of next row (pattern Row 9) work 20 rows in pattern. Fasten off Colour D.
Join Colour E with ss at start of next row (pattern Row 11) work 20 rows in pattern.
Short back panel
With two strands of Colour A, ch80, turn.
Long back panel
With two strands of Colour B, ch80.
Button loops (make 4)
With Colour B, ch15, cut yarn leaving a 10 cm (4 in) tail to fasten loops to cover.
Finishing and joining
Block each panel to following sizes:
- Front textured panel: 40 x 65cm (16 x 26in)
- Short back panel: 40 x 22cm (16 x 9in)
- Long back panel: 40 x 45cm (16x 18in)
Place short panel and textured front panel with wrong sides together. You’ll be working in the top of the stitches and in the sides of the rows.
Start on bottom side in Row 22 (last row of Colour A). Working through all loops of both panels, Join Colour A with ss, 1hdc in each of next 22 rows, 3hdc in corner beginning ch, 1hdc in each of next 77 sts, 3hdc in corner beginning ch, 1hdc in each of next 22 rows, change to Colour B, 1hdc in each of next 10 rows.
Place long panel in between short and front panels. The next 3 hdc will be worked through all loops from all panels (the short back panel is on top). After last of 3 sts in last rows of short panel have been worked, crochet 1hdc in each of next 7 rows of long panel and front panel, change to Colour C, 1hdc in each of next 20 rows, change to Colour D, 1hdc in each of next 20 rows, change to Colour E, 1hdc in each of next 21 rows, 3hdc in corner st, 1hdc in each of next 77 sts, 3hdc in corner st, 1hdc in each of next 21 rows, change to Colour D, 1hdc in each of next 20 rows, change to Colour C, 1hdc in each of next 20 rows, change to Colour B, 1hdc in each of next 7 rows.
Place short panel on top of long panel, and work next 3 hdc through all loops from all panels, 1hdc in each of next 10 rows of short panel and front panel, join with ss to first hdc.
Using Colour C, sew 4 buttons at equal distance on edge of short panel. Fasten button loops at corresponding distances on long panel. Weave in all ends.
