Vintage Sweet Shawl

27.Oct.14 / Kirsten Ballering

If you’re looking for a cozy, snuggly and supple shawl, look no further! The Vintage Sweet shawl is suitable for both beginners and advanced crocheters. I’ve made it in two shades, but it’s easy to adapt and make it your own! The finished shawl measures approx. 150cm in width and 75cm in length (60 x 30in). However, it’s easy to adapt as you can just increase the number of rows. The pattern is written in US terms and contains a written pattern, crochet diagram and photo tutorial.

The pattern for the Vintage Sweet Shawl is also available as a styled and advertisement- free PDF in the Haak Maar Raak shop.

    Shawl

With Colour A, start with a magic loop.

    Row 1 (RS) Ch4 (counts as first dc + ch1), (3dc, ch3, 3dc, ch1, 1dc) in ch-sp, turn (photo 1).

You’re making ‘granny clusters’ consisting of 3 dc, with one chain in between. The bottom point of the shawl is in between the two granny clusters and shaped by the three chains. The single dc’s on the beginning and end of each row are to work your increasing granny clusters in the next round.

    Row 2 (WS) Ch4 (counts as first dc + ch1), 3dc in ch-1 sp of previous row, ch1, (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in center ch-3 sp, ch1, 3dc in next ch-1 sp, ch1, 1dc, turn.

    Rows 3-47 Repeat Row 2.

After finishing Row 47, fasten off and weave in loose ends (photo 2). You’ll be increasing with two granny clusters each row (one in the ch-1 sp at the beginning and one in the ch-1 sp at the end of each row).

Rows 48-55 Take Colour B and join with a ss in ch-1 sp, repeat Row 2. After finishing Row 55 on the RS, fasten off and weave in loose ends (photo 3).

Row 56 (RS) With RS facing, Join Colour B with a ss in the third ch of the beginning ch-4. 1sc in same ch, ch4, skip 1 granny cluster of 3dc, 1sc in next ch-1 sp, *ch4, 1sc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * until center point of shawl, (photo 4), (1sc, ch4, 1sc) in center ch-3 sp (effectively crocheting an extra loop in the point), *ch4, 1sc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * to end of row, 1sc in last dc, turn.

Row 57 (WS) Ch5 (counts as ch3 + ch2), 1sc in ch-4 loop of previous round, *ch4, 1sc in next ch-4 loop; repeat from * until center point of shawl, (1sc, ch4, 1sc) in center ch-4 sp (effectively crocheting an extra loop in the point), *ch4, 1sc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * to end of row, ch2, 1dc in the first sc of Row 56, fasten off (photo 5).

Row 58 (RS) Turn your work and join Colour B with a ss in the last dc of Row 57, *(4dc, picot, 4dc) in the next ch-4 loop, 1sc in the next ch-4 loop (photo 6); repeat from * until you’ve made a sc in the center point-loop, (4dc, picot, 4dc) in the center point loop, sc in same loop, (4dc, picot, 4dc) in the next ch-4 loop, 1sc in the next ch-4 loop; repeat from * to end of row, 1sc in the last ch-5 loop with which you’ve started Row 57 (photo 7). Fasten off, weave in ends.
