  • The pattern for this blanket is long. To keep track of where you are, I’ve divided this pattern into different parts. For each part, a new section with Techniques is introduced. Each part also contains a crochet diagram.
  • In most rows, you’ll make a ch1 before turning your blanket. This is a turning chain and does not count as a stitch. If you find a ch1 is too small, you can also make a ch2. This depends on how tight you crochet.

Crochet pattern

Puff stitch section 1

We’ll be using several techniques to create voluminous bobbles in this blanket. Puff stitches are one of those, and the smallest stitch to create bobbles with. Puff stitches are dense clusters of yarnovers that resemble little balls. They’re fun to make!

Row 36 (WS) Join Colour M with a ss in the first stitch, begin-puff stitch in same st, *ch1, skip 1 st, puff st; repeat from * another 106 times, ch1, skip 1 st, 1dc in last stitch, turn. [1 begin-puff st, 107 puff sts, 108 ch, 1 dc]

If you look closely at your stitches, you can see that the chains you’re crocheting look like they’re positioned on top of the puff stitches.

Row 37 (RS) Ch3 (counts as first dc), puff st in first ch-1 space, *ch1, skip 1 st, puff st in next ch-1 space; repeat from * another 106 times, 1dc in last puff st, cut yarn, turn. [108 puff sts, 107 ch, 2 dc]

Row 38 (WS) Join Colour A with a ss in first dc, ch1, *1hdc in same st, 1hdc in next puff st; repeat from * another 107 times, 1hdc in last dc, ch1, turn. [217 hdc]

Row 39 (RS) Join Colour N with a ss in the first stitch, begin-puff st in same st, *ch1, skip 1 st, puff st; repeat from * another 106 times, ch1, skip 1 st, 1dc in last stitch, cut yarn, turn. [1 begin-puff st, 107 puff sts, 108 ch, 1 dc]

Row 40 (WS) With Colour A, repeat Row 38. [217 hdc]

Row 41 (RS) 217hdc, ch1, turn. [217 hdc]

Row 42 (WS) 217hdc, cut yarn, turn. [217 hdc]

V-stitch section 1

The V-stitch is a nifty little stitch. It’s not the most intricate stitch in this blanket, but it has a great effect on otherwise plain sections.

Row 43 (RS) Join Colour O with a ss in the first stitch, ch3 (counts as first dc), skip 1 stitch, 1dc in next stitch, ch1, dc2tog with first leg in same st as last dc, skip 1 stitch, second leg in next st, ch1, *dc2tog with first leg in same st as last leg of previous dc2tog, skip 1 stitch, second leg in next st, ch1; repeat from * another 104 times, 1dc in same st as last leg, skip 1 st, 1dc in last st, cut yarn, turn. [4 dc, 106 dc2tog and 107 ch]

Row 44 (WS) Join Colour P with a ss in the first stitch, ch3 (counts as first dc), 1dc in ch-1 space of previous V, ch1, *dc2tog with one leg in the same ch-1 space as previous st and second leg in next ch-1 space (effectively crocheting a V right above the V of the previous row), ch1; repeat from * another 105 times, 1dc in same ch-1 space as previous st, 1dc in last st, cut yarn, turn. [4 dc, 106 dc2tog and 107 ch]

Row 45 (RS) With Colour Q, repeat Row 44. [4 dc, 106 dc2tog and 107 ch]

Row 46 (WS) With Colour O, repeat Row 44. [4 dc, 106 dc2tog and 107 ch]

Row 47 (RS) With Colour Q, repeat Row 44. [4 dc, 106 dc2tog and 107 ch]

Row 48 (WS) With Colour P, repeat Row 44. [4 dc, 106 dc2tog and 107 ch]

Row 49 (RS) Join Colour A with a ss in first st, ch1, 1hdc in same st, 1hdc in each st and ch, ch1, turn. [217 hdc]

Row 50 (WS) 217hdc, cut yarn, turn. [217 hdc]

Granny Stripe section 3

This is going to be the last Granny Stripe section for a while!

Row 51 (RS) Join Colour R with a ss in the first stitch, ch3 (counts as first dc), 1dc in same stitch, *skip 2 stitches, 3dc in next stitch; repeat from * another 70 times, skip 2 stitches, 2dc in last stitch, cut yarn, turn. [71 Granny clusters with 3 dc, 2 clusters with 2 dc, 217 dc in total]

Row 52 (WS) Join Colour E with a ss in first stitch, ch3 (counts as first dc), *3dc in first space between clusters of previous row; repeat from * another 71 times, 1dc in third ch of begin-ch3 of previous row. Cut yarn, turn. [72 Granny clusters with 3 dc, 2 dc, 218 dc in total]

Row 53 (RS) Join Colour S with a ss in first stitch, ch3 (counts as first dc), 1dc in first space between clusters, *3dc in next space between clusters; repeat from * another 70 times, 1dc in final space, 1dc in third ch of begin-ch3 of previous row. Cut yarn, turn. [71 Granny clusters with 3 dc, 2 clusters with 2 dc, 217 dc in total]

Row 54 (WS) Join Colour A with a ss in first st, ch1, 1hdc in same st, 216hdc, ch1, turn. [217 hdc]

Row 55 (RS) 217hdc, cut yarn, turn. [217 hdc]
